Dear Son,
Smile because it happened,
Tho’ the tears still seem to fall,
For what a ride it’s been
For the players, for us all.
Our mama’s hearts are heavy
As it’s another “last”.
The memories just bubble up
From your games in the past.
For we still see the little boy
With dreams big as the sky.
And knowing that this is it
Cues the tears and makes us cry.
But the tears are full of pride
It was a season to remember.
For we got to play an extra month
Extending right into November.
So as you walk off that field
And we descend from our seats,
Our hearts may be heavy now
But the memories will be sweet.
Memories of a special squad
Who fought till the very end
A brotherhood, our Boys of Fall
A team of lifelong friends.
We smile because it happened
For deep down we know it’s true,
The lasts are just a doorway
To move on to something new.
Love,
Mom ❤️
