A Bump In the Road

Life is a highway,

A country road, a hiking trail.

As we choose our direction

We succeed and we fail.

Maneuvering through twists and turns

Is what life is all about

Continuing to move forward

Negotiating the right route.

And then comes a bump

That shakes us to the core

We didn’t see it coming

Not something we asked for.

We deal with the jarring

And the rattling that it brings,

We keep our eyes up above

And focus on thankful things.

And when the dust has settled

We look back from where we came,

Just a bump in the road they said,

Life can go on...be the same.

But that little bump shook things up

In places one can’t see.

While my journey continues forward

The bump has changed me.

With it now behind me

Its effects have left their mark

I’ve slowed down to breathe

To treasure things in my heart.

What was once taken for granted

Has been placed in center stage

Enjoying every moment,

A new chapter, a new page.
