Twas the night before school out,
And all through the house
Two creatures were stirring, me and my spouse.
The to-do list was laid by my laptop with care
In hopes that tomorrow it’d be out of my hair.
I wish I was nestled all snug in my bed
While visions of sleeping-in danced in my head.
The anticipation is growing, with each passing day
As we wait for family to make it this way.
When out of my head a great thought burst through
“Tomorrow’s like a Friday!”…Zippadeedo!
Twelve days with no curfew, no wake-up calls,
Visiting with family in our decked out halls.
The music shall play, Silent Night
As we gaze at the beautiful Christmas lights.
When just as I’m thinking that all is quite well,
I am reminded of the First Noel.
It’s a birthday we celebrate, this holiday season
Jesus in his glory is our ultimate reason.
We’ll bow down and worship the great Lord above
As he listens, forgives, and surrounds us with love.
Now Redeemer, now King, Now Glorious Giver,
Now Savior, Now Father, Now Delightful Deliverer.
And if I remember the reason we sing
This Christmas season to Jesus our King,
Our time will be sweeter as we spend it together
With family and friends, making memories forever.
It’s not the to-do list, the goodies we make
It’s the not the gifts or the pictures we take.
It’s to you I sing praises, I sing with my heart,
In hopes that I’ll follow and continue my part
As your servant and student for all of my days
Listening and learning all of your ways.
And bowing my head, each morning and night
I’ll thank you and praise you, oh Loving Light.
For blessings abound and to you I give pause,
You’re greater than any ol’ Santa Clause.
