He allowed a tiny virus
And some state and federal laws
Before He hit the button
And put our whole world on pause.
He could have pressed “stop”
But He wanted us to see
Life could be pared down
To just our family.
Instead of all the bustle
The busy and the noise,
We could focus inward
Find life’s most hidden joys.
Laughter around the table,
Homemade food to smell and eat
A glimpse to the past
When all our schedules didn’t compete.
The home became the center
Of all work, our jobs and school,
A routine was found by all
“Keep busy” became the rule.
Whether to organize and clean
Or a project from the list,
We tidied up our lives
Making up for all times missed.
We found a rhythm and a beat
We marched to day by day
Get the work done first
So then we could play.
Ideas to pass the time
Grew bigger day by day.
Our imaginations worked again
The calendar had no say.
Priorities had shifted
Back to faith and family.
As the world cried in the dark
We used His light to see.
For God was never absent
When the virus came around
He was here beside us daily
Getting our feet back on the ground.
For the world didn’t stop turning
We just weren’t prepared for what to do,
That’s when we lean on Him
When things feel all askew.
For one day we’ll look back
Remember when the virus came to town?
God took control, helped us see
By pressing the pause button down.
